In reply to <a href="https://www.inmotiongraphics.com/hiring-a-professional-web-development-company/#comment-25267">greg</a>.

Hi Greg,

Well, it all depends what kind of WordPress template you are talking about. If it's one of the thousands of free templates that are available all over, I'd advise them of the risks involved. For one, security would be a major concern for me. Also, you never know how well the theme has been coded and how often it will be updated. After all, it was free, so the client can't expect much from it. Ultimately you get what you pay for, so I'd never recommend a free theme in this day and age where quality and security are great concerns. I'm not saying there aren't good free themes, but it is not so easy to evaluate them long term. Also, the client can expect that thousands of other websites will probably look the same as theirs.

However, if you're talking about a premium theme, this isn't necessarily a bad thing. If a client likes a particular premium theme, and it's of a decent quality and well maintained, we'll usually purchase it for them, and then customize it to suit our needs. No point in re-inventing the wheel, especially if the client is on a tight budget. This is one of the best ways to save money and rather invest it in other important areas such as SEO, content and marketing etc.

Good quality premium themes generally won't lack anything if you choose well, except uniqueness (there might be hundreds of other websites using the same theme), although this often wouldn't be an issue for many clients.

I hope this helps.

Working with a client that just wants to use a wordpress template. While we know the value that a professionally designed website provides, it is hard to explain to them, what are some basic points we can use to help them see that a WP template lacks X Y Z and can benefit them in A B C etc.?

Hi Robynn,

I really feel your pain, and know all about the situation you are in, and how difficult and frustrating it is.

We'd be happy to assist you in claiming your local listing, and no, you don't need to subscribe to any services or sell a kidney to pay for it... ;-)

We'll reply to your email shortly.

Thank you.

We do have a local listing. But we purchased the shop from previous owners. They are no longer reachable, and we do not have the password for their Google Business account. We've tried to make a new listing and have it verified, but were denied due to a current listing being active. We tried to gain control through verification of ownership, but Google representatives just lead us on a merry chase of confusion and nothing is every accomplished. At this point we're looking at our only option being to use one of these "verified" businesses who want to charge us hundreds upon hundreds of dollars to subscribe to a monthly service chock full of things we don't need (because we can honestly handle our website, Facebook, etc. ourselves) just to give us access to our Google listing so that we can update information, respond to reviews, etc. Is there a way to work around all of this? Seeing as you offer this service yourselves, is there a fee to simply regain control of our listing? We don't need a huge package deal, or help managing our Google listing once we have the ability to access it. We'd be happy to pay for help to get it back, but we don't need the $500 or so recurring monthly package all the marketing companies try to insist we need. They tell us its an all or nothing deal. Help! -Caldwell Floral
